About

Usalama Reforms Forum is a community safety and security based institution working through evidence-based research focusing on crime and violence prevention, strengthening community safety models and access to justice through human rights promotion and police accountability. Usalama has contributed to influence policy formulation, development of key legislations on policing, producing community safety models and monitoring implementation of police reforms in Kenya.

Partners

Usalama operates at the national level and in counties with communities as key pillars of engagements. Our partners include; the National Police Service, the National Police Service Commission, Independent Policing Oversight Authority, Kenya National Commission on Human Rights and Police Reforms Working Group. Usalama has worked closely with selected police stations, community organizations, special interest groups, private security players and members of the public through community policing programs.

Achievements

Some of our achievements include: review of the Service Standing Orders of the police, launch of Communities and their Police Station - a study report, making submissions to the Constitution Implementation Commission on the National Police Service Act, the National Police Service Commission Act, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority Act and Private Security Regulation Act. Usalama has conducted perception surveys and baselines on community satisfaction in selected communities in Kenya.
